Materials: J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen; single size: 30 balls of White or Ecru and 21 balls of any color. Double size: 38 balls of White or Ecru and 28 balls of any color. Steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7.

Gauge: Each motif measures about 5 inches square. For a single size spread about 70 x 105 inches, make 294 motifs. For a double size spread about 90 x 105 inches, make 378 motifs.

FIRST MOTIF... Starting at center with Ecru, ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st in top st of 1st ch.

2nd rnd: Ch 3 (to count as dc), 2 dc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, skip 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-3 to top st of 1st ch.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 4, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

4th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next 2 dc, ch 2, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 4, sc in next sp, ch 4, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

5th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next 3 dc, ch 2, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, (ch 4, sc in next loop) twice; ch 4, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

6th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in 4 dc, ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, (ch 4, sc in next loop) 3 times; ch 4, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

7th rnd: Ch 3, dc in 5 dc, * ch 3, dc in 6 dc, (ch 4, sc in next loop) 4 times; ch 4, dc in 6 dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

PICOT RIDGE... With right side facing, attach colored thread at base of 1st dc on 3rd rnd; work around outer edge of petal design as follows: Ch 1, sc in same place where thread was attached, ch 3, sc in base of 1st dc on 4th rnd, * ch 3, dc in base of next rnd. Repeat from * to base of 12th rnd, ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp of 12th rnd (between tr's), ch 5, sc in same sp, ch 3 and work along opposite side of petal to correspond, ** work 3 sc in sp between petals, work around following petal in same way. Repeat from ** around. Join.

SECOND MOTIF... Work 11 rnds as for 1st motif. 12th rnd: Ch 4, skip 1 dc, tr in next dc, tr in next sp, ch 2, sc in corresponding loop on 1st motif, ch 2, tr in same sp, skip 1 dc, 2 tr in next dc, (ch 2, sc in next loop on 1st motif, ch 2, sc in next loop on 2nd motif) 9 times; skip 1 dc, 2 tr in next dc, tr in next sp, ch 2, sc in corresponding loop on 1st motif, ch 2, tr in same sp, finish rnd as for 1st motif. Fasten off. Work picot ridge as before.

Make 14 x 21 motifs for single size spread, or 18 x 21 motifs for double size spread, joining adjacent sides as 2nd motif was joined to 1st (wherever 4 corners meet, join 3rd and 4th corners to joining of other corners).
